Thanks to our friends at BMA Engage for sending us this pic of our Wiffiti + Foursquare app in action at their 2010 National Conference at the Swissôtel Chicago. The speaker in the background is GE’s CMO, Beth Comstock.

Aloha…
und Guten Tag!
et bonjour!
e ciao!
とhello!
e Olá!

Kicking off this morning on the iconic Viacom Times Square jumbotron, Vans and LocaModa have launched a global cross-channel campaign in 7 languages!

Using LocaModa’s patented place-based media distribution platform, users can submit their photos and messages from across the globe by visiting www.beheretimessquare.com (or vans.com/behere) or by emailing [email protected]. Just put your message in the subject line and attach your photo! U.S. residents can also send texts to @vans + message to 87884.

Each day, a new call to action will be showcased in all 7 languages, giving users a theme for the day’s content (e.g. How do you or someone you know give back to your community?, If you could change or create one law in society, what would it be?). Users are encouraged to post their thoughts on the daily question, or in true Vans style, answer a question of their own :)

Users will receive confirmation after their message has been submitted, and will then be contacted if their message is chosen for display on the big screen. If selected, the user will receive a link to a digital snapshot of their message or photo taken by a camera mounted in Times Square. This pic can easily be shared with friends and family via Facebook or other social utilities, and users can even embed a widget showing recent messages in their own blogs.

A live video feed of the site can be found on Be Here Times Square and on the official on the Vans site. The Be Here website supports English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese, making this the first global social media campaign of its kind.

I think it’s pretty clear that Vans is distinguishing themselves as quite the groundbreaking global brand-
and yet the classic checkered slip-ons are still the coolest shoes around.

Sure, we have a tutorial up on wiffiti.com… But how great is it when your users start putting up tutorials of their own?

We’re mucho impressed by this screencast by the folks over at NTCGeek. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves… (we’re serious).
The only critique is a slight pronunciation tweak:
Wiffiti = WHY-FEE-TEE (short for ‘wireless graffiti’).

Fantastic job guys, and thanks for using Wiffiti!

A title is everything, eh?

Dealing with F**K is the final installment of Stephen’s series of four white papers outlining best practices and new standards for the Digital Out of Home industry. This paper focuses on the multi-dimensional (and often tricky) concept of filtering and moderation on DOOH displays.

“Do you provide moderation?” is quite possibly the question we’re most often asked by clients, and it’s without a doubt one of the most contentious legal concepts in the industry. This paper shares some of the solutions we’ve found over the years.

As with the other three installments, we’re sponsoring exclusive release with the good folks over at DailyDOOH. Thanks, Adrian!

We get many emails from users asking how to get rid of unwanted web or mobile messages on their Wiffiti screens. I’ve grabbed a few screenshots from the “I Love Trash” screen to demonstrate how easy it is!

First, click on My Screens in the top righthand corner of wiffiti.com.
Next, go to the timeline view of the screen.

(Note: You can also find a link to the timeline in the top right of individual screen pages).

All web-submitted and mobile messages/photos will have a small blue “X” in the righthand side of their call-out box.

Go ahead… Click that.
Vamoooose!

Oh, the power.

A few notes:
1. Only web-submitted and mobile messages can be deleted. Twitter and flickr messages (if you choose to integrate tagged content) cannot be deleted by the user… so choose your tags wisely!
2. You can set your screen rating (G, R). Using wiffiti.com, messages can only be deleted after they are delivered to the screen.
3. Screen owners can delete messages on his/her screens ONLY. You cannot delete a message on a screen you did not create.
3. For advanced moderation options, contact us about our Self-Managed Apps Program.
